Die
Cree vom Lubicon-Lake nutzten die Anhörung vor der
Un-Menschenrechtskommission in Genf Mitte Oktober für ihr
Anliegen. Sie beklagten die drohende kalte Enteignung durch die
Firma Deep Well Oil & Gas (DWOG). Gemeinsam mit weiteren
Firmen plant DWOG 500 Förderstellen für Schweröl
aus Teersand. Die notwendigen Förderrechte besorgten sich
die Firmen durch raffinierte bürokratische Tricks.
Die offene Landrechtsfrage ist noch immer nicht gelöst.
Trotzdem wurden die Förderrechte vergeben. Vor dem
Teersand-Run drängten Papierkonzerne ins Cree-Land am
Lubicon-Lake. Der großteils erfolgte Kahlschlag
hinterließ ein verwüstetes, baumloses Land. Die
Lubicon informierten über diese drastische Entwicklung bei
ihrem Besuch in Südtirol (Ende Oktober) Umwelt-Landesrat
Michl Laimer, Walter Huber vom internationalen Bodenbündnis
und Norbert Lantschner vom Klimabündnis. Landesrat Laimer
kündigte seine Unterstützung an. Südtirol wird auf
der UN-Klimakonferenz in Kanada auf die Lage der Lubicon
aufmerksam machen.
Der Kahlschlag und die geplante Teersandförderung (bei einer
Tagesproduktion von 1,5 Millionen Liter Rohöl werden 18.000
Kubikmeter Wasser verbraucht und verschmutzt)wird sich auf das
Klima auswirken. Die Vernichtung der Wälder und der
Böden, die Verschmutzung des Grundwassers, die
großflächige Injektion von Heißdampf in die
Böden wird letztendlich dazu führen, dass die Cree
heimatlos werden.
Briefe an den Teersand-Piraten David Perez
in Kalifornien
Die Lubicon bitten ihre europäischen Unterstützer um
Briefe an David Perez, den Board Chairman, Chief Operating
Officer und Hauptinvestor der Firma Surge Global Energy. Der
folgende Text ist ein Formulierungsvorschlag. Es wäre sehr
freundlich, wenn Kopien der abgeschickten Briefe an die
Aktionsgruppe Indianer & Menschenrechte gesandt würden,
die wir dann an die Lubicon Cree weiterleiten werden.

Dear Mr. Perez,
Information provided by European organizations in support of the
Lubicon Lake Indian Nation in northern Alberta indicates that
your company Surge Global Energy is involved in major tarsands
projects within unceded Lubicon territory. It is also known that
your company is collaborating with Deep Well Oil and Gas a
company who failed to consult with the Lubicon Cree or its
members prior to the start 0./ this joint project by Deep Well
and Surge.
You should be advised that the struggle if the Lubicon Lake
Indian Nation is widely known and very well documented within the
European Union and with the United Nations Human Rights Committee
in Geneva. Canada and subsequently the Province if Alberta have
been found in violation of the human rights of the Lubicon Cree
regarding the destruction if their livelihood, culture and
environment. The UN committee deemed negotiations to be an
appropriate remedy JOr the complaints if the Lubicon Lake Indian
Nation.
As you are very well aware there are no substantial and
meaningful negotiations taiking place between Canada, Alberta and
the Lubicon Cree. Using permits, licenses and procedures set up
to facilitate access to unceded Lubicon resources, destruction if
Lubicon traplines, expropriation of Lubicon resources, damage to
the Lubicon environment in this case puts your company in line
with both levels if Canadian government, because you are taking
advantage if an unsettled land rights dispute. Therefore demand
that all activities by your company should be stopped until the
Lubicon either reach an acceptable land rights settlement with
the Canadian government or- at least - consent to planned
activities by your company prior to their actual start within
unceded Lubicon territory.
